A man dressed as Batman who fled police after crashing his car into a pole while drunk has been disqualified from driving for a year.

Lewis Blondrage, 25, of Aliwal Barracks, crashed into a telegraph pole in Meerut Road, Tidworth, on 19 November.

Blondrage fled the scene and he was chased by local residents into the darkness.

He was found guilty of drink driving and failing to stop at the scene of a road traffic collision on Wednesday. He was sentenced to a 12-month driving disqualification and a £600 fine at Swindon Magistrates’ Court.

It took several policing teams, including police dogs, to eventually capture Blondrage, Wiltshire Police said.

On arrest he failed a roadside breath test and was taken to custody where he provided a blood sample which was over the legal limit.
