About 100 firefighters are tackling a large fire at a takeaway in north London.

Half of the ground floor of the building on Seven Sisters Road in Holloway is alight, the London Fire Brigade (LFB) said on Thursday.

Part of two flats on the first and second floors remain alight, LFB added, but the cause of the fire is unknown.

Speaking at the scene, Station Commander Mike Watts said road closures were in place and urged people to avoid the area due to smoke and traffic congestion.

“The fire is producing a lot of smoke in the vicinity and local residents are advised to keep their windows and doors closed while we work to bring the fire under control,” he added.

The brigade said it received 19 calls about the blaze, with the first one coming in at 03:45 GMT.

It added 15 fire engines were on the scene at the blaze including crews from Kentish Town, Islington, and Euston.

Ten fire engines and 70 firefighters attended a separate fire in West Hampstead in north London, also on Thursday, which was brought under control by 05:23.

At a fire in West Hampstead, about 25 people had to be moved to safety

The blaze broke out at a end-of-terrace house converted into flats on Lyncroft Gardens.

In that fire, part of the roof of the building was alight and firefighters evacuated around 25 people to safety, but there were no reports of any injuries.

Station Commander Ken Spratt, who was at the scene, said: “West Hampstead Fire Station has been set up as a rest centre for residents affected by the fire.”

The first call was made to LFB at 03:09 and crews from West Hampstead, Paddington, North Kensington, Hendon and surrounding fire stations attended the scene.
