The BBC has announced The Traitors season 3 finale was a record breaker and made history – but fans have been asking for a change to be made to the endgame
The nail-biting conclusion to the BBC ’s hit show The Traitors has broken a major record for the national broadcaster.
The third season came to a thrilling end on Friday night and seems to have been worth the chaos as the final episode attracted a whopping audience that was 1.6million larger than last year’s season finale.
The BBC revealed the final episode, presented by Claudia Winkleman, was watched live by an “average audience of 7.4million on Friday night”, making it the most watched episode of the show ever.
Meanwhile, a further 4.8million people tuned into the aftershow, The Traitors: Uncloaked, which aired straight after the finale.
Meanwhile, The Traitors winners Leanne Quigley and Jake Brown both required support and therapy to help them keep the show’s secrets for months. The pair, both Faithfuls, were crowned the winners in Friday’s final, which unlocked the massive £94,600 prize money, but before then, they had to not speak about their experience and the final outcome.
The BBC show was filmed in the spring, so there were many months when they could not reveal any details of their time in the Traitors castle. Speaking to The Sunday Times, Leanne and Jake admitted that they required help from the show’s welfare team and therapy to ensure the secrets were not let out of the bag.
Speaking about the past months, Jake said: “It was filmed back in the springtime so it’s been a long time to keep it quiet. It’s been really difficult. I mean, I was paranoid in my head because before the show even came on, I kept thinking people were looking at me, but obviously at that point no one knew who I was.”
Following the tense final episode, fans have called for a change to the show’s endgame.
The tense last portion of the show had players Alexander , Frankie , Leanne and Jake gathered around the firepit after they had uncovered Traitor Charlotte . The four remaining players did not know they were all Faithfuls, and they had to each decide whether to vote for another banishment, or hope all Traitors had been eliminated. The rules of the game meant that if any Traitor remained, they would take all of the prize pot, whereas if there were only Faithfuls left, they got to split the prize.
All four players voted for another banishment, with Alexander being the first to be voted out. Then they decided to banish again, and Frankie was also chosen to leave. That left Leanne and Jake as the winners, and they divided £94,600 between them . They also learned that they had banished two fellow Faithfuls. Some fans even pointed out online that the banishments could have been decided out of greed, so that the money was divided between two players instead of four.

The Traitors: Leanne and Jake crowned as winners
Fans have pointed out that this is a major flaw in the game, as Faithfuls are actually incentivised to keep voting people out so there are less people in the game to share the cash. One wrote: “The more people who get kicked out, the bigger slice of the pie each contestant gets when they win. The game could be improved by either cutting the prize fund every time a Faithful gets evicted, or by having a prize fund for each player rather than for the whole team.”
Another commented: “The Faithful need to have a disincentive for banishing Faithful at the final fire pit vote (e.g. more money for every Faithful left, or prize fund goes down with every Faithful banished).” A third agreed to the suggestion, saying: “Sounds fair. Would still be a gamble, but would make great viewing,” while a fourth said: “I would love them to add something so they lose money every time a faithful is banished. Think it would add a really good game element and make the players really think about what they are doing instead of just throwing random theories out there.”
Many fans felt runners-up Frankie and Alexander were the ‘real winners’ of the series , despite not getting their hands on the cash prize at the end. “So can we agree the real winners of the series?”, one wrote, sharing pictures of Alexander and Frankie along with Traitors Minah and Linda. “But the real winners were the icons we made along the way,” agreed another, also sharing pictures of Linda, Minah and Alexander. A third echoed: “alexander robbed this season of traitors he’s the real people’s winner!”
