US President-elect Donald Trump has said it would be a “great idea” for Canada to become the 51st US state.

“Many Canadians want Canada to become the 51st State,” he said on Tuesday on his social media platform, repeating a jab at his northern neighbour that he has mentioned a few times recently.

The BBC asked Canadians what they think of the president-elect’s comments – and the state of the relationship between both countries ahead of Trump taking office.
