YOU SAID IT: Ontario election unnecessary

Article content
In 2022, Doug Ford enjoyed an even bigger election victory than in 2018. Now he is calling another election — for whatever reason or reasons he can divine — ahead of the mandated 2026 date.
It appears he thinks the current contretemps created by megalomaniac Donald Trump has dropped the perfect reason for an early election into his lap. He claims he “needs a strong mandate” to deal with and respond to Trump on Ontario’s behalf.
Thus far, he has been effective and supported by Ontarians, and indeed most Canadians, in his unofficial role as Captain Canada. He has done so with the mandate he currently has, and I have heard no one demanding he seek a new mandate to continue that battle against Trump.
Be warned however, Doug Ford. Your claim to need a new mandate to deal with Trump is a trumped-up (pardon the pun) excuse to lengthen your own political career as premier. It is also a load of nonsense.

Because you are proceeding with this naked power grab to extend your term, this longtime Conservative will definitely not be voting for your local candidate and, further, will campaign to convince others to follow suit.
You have done well thus far. You don’t need to call an election in an attempt to gild your own lily!

NOT SMART BY SMITH
Nobody can blame Alberta Premier Danielle Smith for sticking up for Albertans, but obviously her weekend with Donald Trump didn’t teach her anything about the “art of the deal”.
Keep your mouth shut about internal differences and stop broadcasting family disagreements in the media. Disagree all you like with the other premiers behind closed doors, but don’t tell your opponent you are on his team before the negotiations even start. Try to throw your opponent off guard rather than showing weakness before the negotiations even start.
These were not smart moves Smith. Next time try to do better and read Donnie’s best seller, The Art of the Deal. You might learn something useful to Albertans and Canadians.
